2017 Archdiocese Convention Timeline
Hotel reservations open at the Diplomat Resort & Spa.
Executive committee meets to select chairpersons of all committees.
Fr. Saba and Andrea Abu-Akel submit full detailed report of all convention matters to His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH and the Archdiocese Board of Trustees at the Antiochian Village. Report was unanimously approved.
Co-Chair of the Department of Conventions and Conference Planning, Raed Sweiss, attends convention executive committee meeting to assist with final pricing and other important elements of convention.
Detailed negotiations with The Diplomat Hotel are finalized.
First Town Hall meeting for convention takes place at Saint George Cathedral to introduce the convention details to the entire community.
Planning and preparations continue.
Launch of convention website.
Delegation of 37 members of the Cathedral present new marketing video and report to the General Assembly at the Archdiocese Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. Convention Committee receives hotel reservations from 135 families at the marketing booth in Boston. The booth received a very special guest – His Beatitude Patriarch JOHN X gave a special blessing to the entire committee and delegation.
Creation of new 2017 Archdiocese Convention logo and Website www.AC2017Miami.org meetings and preparations for the 2015 Archdiocese Convention in Boston.
Pre-planning and marketing design begin.
First meeting of Executive Committee takes place.
Executive Committee for 2017 Archdiocese Convention is appointed.
Fr. Saba meets with Andrea Abu-Akel to prepare committee qualifications according to DCCP manual.
Hotel Contract is finalized and signed by Fr. Saba and Andrea Abu-Akel, and the hotel representative.
Final negotiations take place between Michael Husson, Andrea Abu-Akel and the hotel. Hotel Contract is submitted to DCCP for final approval and review by Archdiocese Chancellor.
Bid is submitted by Fr. Saba and Andrea Abu-Akel to His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP, the Board of Trustees, and General Assembly of the Archdiocese at the 2013 Archdiocese Convention in Houston, Texas. Bid is approved unanimously.
Bid Video is filmed and prepared for new Cathedral YouTube Channel.
Bid logo is created.
Fr. Saba appoints Andrea Abu-Akel as Chairlady of 2017 Convention Committee.
Preparations begin to submit bid at 2013 Archdiocese Convention in Houston.
Negotiations continue and final contract is drafted. Michael J. Husson presents hotel information to Cathedral Council.
Draft Contract is presented to DCCP for review.

Diplomat Resort and Spa is contacted by Michael J. Husson, who arranges an appointment for Fr. Saba and Michel Nasr to view hotel.
Search for hotel begins. Fr. Saba contacts several hotels in South Florida.
Fr. Saba contacts Archdiocese Department of Convention and Conference Planning (DCCP) and informs DCCP of blessing to bid.
Fr. Saba and Michel Nasr receive letter from His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP, which states St. George Cathedral has the blessing to submit bid.
Fr. Saba writes letter to His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP requesting blessing and permission to submit bid. A copy of letter is sent to His Grace Bishop ANTOUN.
Fr. Saba contacts His Grace Bishop ANTOUN by phone to receive blessing to write His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP.
Cathedral Council votes unanimously to submit bid to host Convention in 2017.
Discussions begin at Cathedral Council monthly meetings about hosting Archdiocese Convention in 2017.
